It is no secret that Austin TX is home of some of the hottest guitar slingers of the past and into the present. Meet Austin Music Award winner for “Best Guitar 2016” – Ulrich Ellison. Other notable guitarists that have received this title are SRV, Eric Johnson and Gary Clark Johnson. Relatively unknown in the US, Ellison and his Tribe have become a name to remember in the European Blues scene. As Finalists of the European Blues Challenge 2016, their album “Rise Up From The Ashes” was critically acclaimed and featured in some of the well-known publications like the German and Norwegian “Bluesnews”,”Blues Magazine” of the Netherlands, and many others. Besides his virtuoso and emotional guitar style, Ellison’s music rises to the top through distinct songwriting and a great instinct for tones and textures. The songs incorporate mature dynamics and nuances, driven by the powerful tightness of the Tribe’s rhythm section. The new album is more rock-based than previous material, and like the title track “America” might make you guess, very much inspired by the recent political shift. Still, this album knows how to entertain and incorporates both humor and depth in dealing with the challenges and joys of living in the year 2017.

The “American Road Dog” Tour 2017 will bring Ulrich Ellison and Tribe all across the EU and USA – secure your tickets today!

Ellison arrived in Austin in 2007 where he completed a MM in jazz performance. After paying dues as a sideman, he started his own band in 2010. Since then, “Ulrich Ellison and Tribe” have been on 8 national club tours and are embarking on their third European Tour this year. LONG BIO:
Born in Austria, Tribe leader and guitarist Ulrich Ellison sets out to a daring journey between tradition and innovation. Classically trained with two Master degrees in Music, Ulrich was selected for a Fulbright scholarship and moved to Austin TX. That’s where he turned heads after winning 3 international Downbeat student awards in the years 2008-10, category Blues/Rock. Since then, he has released 3 more albums and his band quickly advanced from local underground to a nationally and internationally touring act, all in DIY style. Ellison’s musical influences are very diverse, but there is a constant: his love for the electric guitar and for the blues. “I love the electric guitar, how to make it speak, cry and soar. It’s the full palette of human emotions. I want to touch people.”

His band “The Tribe” features Texas groove veteran Joel Duhon (Van Wilks, Mason Ruffner) on drums, bass woman and wife Sabine Ellison (Rev Frank TT) and a revolving cast of side members including keyboardist Darrell Commander, accordeonist Jan Flemming and violinists Will Taylor and Bridgid Bibbens. Voted “#1 Best Blues/Funk/Soul Band” and “#4 Best Rock Band” at the 2014-15 Austin Music Awards, they have been across the US and Europe for the last three years. With a fulminant show that is ready to go from hard-hitting rockers to breath-taking guitar jams to well crafted pop songs, Ulrich Ellison and Tribe play anything from blues festivals to jam band open airs to smoking nights in your neighborhood bar.
